TRACK 1
In this cycle tour we discover the two main circuits of Padua’s city walls. What historical richness and unusual places await you, hidden between the walls and the ramparts! The track starts in front of the Specola Tower. You will learn how the tower and its castle were transformed into an astrological observatory of the University of Padua.

TRACK 2
Starting at the beginning of via Tolomei, we admire parts of the oldest ring of city walls of Padua, dating back to the 1200s. The voice of the actor then leads us to the important ‘Porta Molino’, which was the northern access gate to the city at the time of the Communes.

TRACK 3
Leaving Ponte Molino we approach the area of the second circuit of walls. We enter a small park with a monument dedicated to the victims of the September 11 attacks, to discover a special place of water and locks and examine the importance of rivers and canals for the city of Padua during times of peace and war.

TRACK 4
Standing in front of the most magnificent gate in the 16th century second circuit of walls built by the Venetians, we understand the importance of the river port named the ‘Portello’.

We see what remains of a place where the Venetians had planned to build a real fortress on the water along the defensive perimeter of the city walls.

In this place we can see some interesting details of the city walls. This is a unique observation point. Note in particular the triangular buttresses that reinforce the brick and stone walls.

Visiting Porta Santa Croce and its bridge, you will admire the most modern military architecture used by the Venetians in the 16th century for the new fortifications of Padua.

Here we are at the last stop: the Bastione Alicorno. Of the 20 ramparts built along the 11 km renaissance perimeter wall, Alicorno is the most southerly keep and one of the most interesting ones when it comes to the internal architecture of the fortification. We hope to have given you at least a taste of the historical richness of the two city walls of Padua; our bicycle tour is finished.
